No Spend January 2023

This January I have challenged myself not to spend! I spent way too much over Xmas - despite budgeting as best as I could! Plus, with the cost of living crisis and my heating bill looking particularly scary... No Spend January has come at the best time!

You can join our Facebook Community group here . I will share lots of tips and tricks and we can help keep each other on track!

What does No Spend January actually mean?

Don't worry, I am not going on some strike and refusing to pay all my bills. I see my finances split into two parts, 'essentials' and 'non-essentials'. My essentials include things like food, rent, petrol, council tax... basically everything I HAVE to pay each month. Those things are non-negotiable and will be paid as normal!

Next up are my non essentials. I spend way too much on 'stuff' each month. When combing through my finances, I am super guilty at buying food out. The odd £10 on Greggs or £15 in Costa quickly add up. So this month I have decided not to spend at all on food out or takeaways! I went through my finances and wrote a list of all the non essential areas I am spending on. However, I have kept a section for 'emergencies' such as, the car breaks down or the heating breaks! Sometimes those things are unavoidable spends!

But If I don't spend in January won't I be miserable?

If you know me, you know my main priority in life is protecting my mental health and ensuring my friends and family are prioritising their mental health too. The aim of this challenge isn't to strip you of doing everything you love, but to help you manage your finances. If you decide you wants Costa hot chocolate to cheer you up or the kids are driving you mad and you take them to soft play to blow steam... don't worry! You can still take part in this challenge, you won't be exiled!  You can check out my Top Tips here! However, I have put together a monthly calendar of free activities to help keep yourself busy throughout January. I will also share my top tips for staying on track. We are in this together!
